Welcome to ICOSSEI 2019

ICOSSEI is a biennial conference on social studies and environmental issues. This event organized by Social Studies Program, Faculty of Social Science, Universitas Negeri Malang and supported by HISPISI (Association of Social Science scholar), APRIPSI ((Social Studies Program Forum), FOGIPSI (Social Studies Teacher Forum), and MGMP (Social Studies Teacher Forum). It will provide an international forum in the field of social science and environment for researchers, academicians, professionals, and students from over the world and for various perspectives. After peer review process, accepted papers will be published in Proceeding and Journal indexed by SCOPUS, DOAJ/DIMENSIONS/SINTA, and ISBN Proceeding.

This conferecne aims to; (1) provide a platform for researchers, academicians, practitioners, as well as professionals of all fields of study from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in the fields of social studies and environmental issue; (2) Establish an international forum where all participants have opportunities to share ideas, experiences, expertise, and knowledge on the global issues of educational practices, especially in social studies, and development with great attention to create and implement the education values and environmental issues in the disruption era; (3) facilitate all Institutions (organizations) to build business relationship for their future development.

Reasons and Goals

The term “disruption era” has become a very interesting phenomenon throughout the world lately. The disruption era refers to the emergence of many innovations that are invisible, not realized by established organizations and disrupting the course of the old system of activities or even destroying the old system. The emergence of digital phenomena that have almost penetrated all fields such as the digital market, application-based transportation services, and other digital systems, are a few of the many cases that will increase in the future. This is an implication of the unlimited world caused by the high technological progress that causes all potential access to develop dynamically and provide opportunities for anyone to be able to optimize it.

Disruption phenomenon, currently still occurs in the business sector. In the future, this can certainly also befall the world of education. These symptoms, now beginning to appear, with the emergence of online universities such as Udemy, Courseera, Futurelearn, etc. This phenomenon must be able to encourage universities to innovate on an ongoing basis, prepare themselves to adapt to the pace of technological progress, and create new opportunities in accordance with the direction of development needed both by the people of Indonesia and the world community.

Social studies as an interdisciplinary field that combines social sciences such as history, geography, economics, sociology, anthropology, politics, law, psychology, etc., has an important role in the process of cultural development, national character building, creation of consciousness community to continue to develop positively, and become good citizens and citizens of the world.

Environmental issues, due to the emergence of exponential technological phenomena, are becoming a strategic issue that encourages researchers and practitioners of the environment to be increasingly motivated to promote the importance of protecting the environment for the future sustainability of humans. Environmental issues as one of the important issues in the SDGs get very strong attention and encourage developing countries and developed countries to take a role in the continuation of the future life of mankind in each country.

In the context of the disruption era, strengthening the role of social studies and promoting environmental issues are inevitable. This encourages the need for rediscovery of philosophical thinking and praxis of social life as contextualization media in developing curriculum and implementation of future social studies learning innovations. In addition, this phenomenon also encourages environmental preservation based on harmonization of nature, humans, and exponential technology. Thus, at this international conference, it is important to raise "Strengthening the Role of Social Studies and Promoting Environmental Issues in the Disruption Era" and we invite academics, education practitioners and the environment, entrepreneurs, professionals, policy makers, and the public to be involved in sharing ideas and thoughts from various perspectives.

The main objectives of ICOSSEI 2019 are to (1) Provide a platform for researchers, academicians, practitioners, as well as professionals of all fields of study from all over the world to present their research results and development activities in the fields of social studies, education and technology, and environmental issue; (2) Establish an international forum where all participants have opportunities to share ideas, experiences, expertise, and knowledge on the global issues of educational practices, especially in social studies, and development with great attention to create and implement the education values and environmental issues in the disruption era; (3) facilitate all Institutions (organizations) to build business relationship for their future development.

We believe that such academic meeting will cradle innovative way to explore the trends for future researchers on social studies and environmental issues. Prospective contributors are welcome to submit full papers through the online submission system. ICOSSEI 2019 warmly welcomes contributors from diverse fields of social studies to join this international forum. All submissions to the ICOSSEI 2019 will be reviewed by at least two independent peers for technical merit and content. It is anticipated that a broad range of research and applied topics will be covered during the conference.
